Alan Wake 2 Review: Remedying The Past
Alan Wake 2 marks a fantastic high point in the survival horror genre.
You’d have to have been living under a rock to miss Longlegs’ recent marketing campaign that has been working people up into a frenzy. The movie had already reached a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes before it was even launched, as critics say it’s the scariest film of the decade. If you have played Alan Wake 2, you may have noticed some similarities between the two, with fans of the game who have already seen it saying that it’s “a film you need to see”.
Editor-in-chief of media outlet But Why Tho?, Kate Sanchez, took to Twitter/X to gush about Longlegs after seeing it recently, telling Alan Wake fans “Longlegs is the best FBI thriller since Seven – that cuts subtly across cult horror. To be honest, if you loved Alan Wake II this feels like the film you watch after.” Sanchez isn’t the only one seeing many resemblances between the horror movie and the Remedy title.
One Twitter/X user after watching Longlegs’ terrifying trailers, posted “It might be my fixation slipping out but the Longlegs trailers reminds me a lot of Alan Wake 2”. Over on Reddit, a thread has already begun regarding how they both contain the same vibes; Longlegs and Wake 2 both have a female FBI investigator who maintains an “evidence crime board”, the same moody weather atmosphere, unsolved mysteriously unnatural murders, and also dealings with a cult.
Alan Wake 2’s director, Sam Lake, has also posted how excited he is by the movie and can’t wait to see it, but unfortunately, states that he can’t find a release date to go see it from where he is in Finland. “I’m very much looking forward to seeing Longlegs. I love everything I have heard/seen so far. But I can’t find any info on when it’s going to be out here in Finland” replied Lake to Sanchez’s initial post.
As someone who loved the bone-chilling environments, unhinged Taken, and freaky murders throughout Alan Wake 2, I can’t wait to dive into Longlegs and hope that it’s every bit as good as they say it is. Maybe we could even see Alan Wake 2 become inspired to get itself up onto the big screen to give Longlegs a run for its money at some point?
